Jo Bird and Company suspends production at their factory in Somerset

In view of the UK Government's recent announcements regarding the COVID-19 virus, we suspended production at our factory in Somerset. Like all businesses, not listed as being essential, we must remain closed for at least the next two weeks. At the end of this period the Government will review the situation. This means the operational side of our business has been halted but the sales/estimating function will remain active so are contactable by phone and email as usual.

The factory in Dubai where Jo Bird cabinets are also manufactured under license regrettably has also had to suspend production for the same reason as of this week and will remain closed until the end of April.

All of us sincerely hope normal operations will start again soon but the worldwide fight against Covid 19 is paramount, for all our safety.

When the Government advises us that the factory in the UK can re-commence operations, we will issue an update.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding at this difficult time and we hope you and your families remain safe.

Jo Bird and company suspends production at their factory in Somerset

In view of the UK Government's announcement last night regarding the COVID-19 virus, we have had no option but to suspend production at our factory in Somerset as all businesses, not listed as being essential, must close for three weeks. At the end of this period the Government will review the situation. This means the operational side of our business has been halted as of today. Those not directly involved in production will continue to work remotely so are contactable by phone and email as usual.

The factory in Dubai where Jo Bird cabinets are also manufactured under license is still operating as normal as of today. These can be shipped to the most countries in the world and so some production can continue. The cabinets manufactured there have the same Lloyds and ABS approvals as those manufactured in the UK but the ranges do have some differences so not every model will be available.

All of us sincerely hope normal operations will start again soon but for the safety of our workforce and their families we have had to take this step. When the Government advises us that the factory in the UK can re-open we will issue a new update.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding at this difficult time and we hope you and your families remain safe.

New SOS300 Fire hose cabinet for the commercial marine sector

SOS300 was developed as a result of feedback from one of the world's largest shipping lines who were not satisfied with the quality of fibreglass hose boxes fitted to their vessels.

It has taken a couple of years to create this brand new design which has undergone extensive testing to ensure it not only protects the contents effectively but will provide many years of trouble free service.

This is achieved through the use of the best materials for each aspect of the design. The only metal components are 316 stainless steel and all the other components will not corrode or break down under intense UV radiation.
Great care has been taken to ensure the hose and nozzle can be accessed quickly in an emergency so there is only one large door handle to open. The small form factor, shallow depth and left or right hinged door means it can be located in tight machinery spaces.

The SOS300 is manufactured in the UK and is avaialable now.

Brexit Statement

BREXIT STATEMENT (November 2019)

As things stand the UK will cease to be part of the EU by 31st January 2020 subject to the UK Parliment’s decisions. The delay since the original date of 29th March 2019 has allowed for more preparation for a no-deal Brexit scenario to planned for and potential disruption to trade reduced. A no-deal Brexit however looks to be extremely unlikely, but we are prepared just in case.

Jo Bird & Co Ltd are an experienced exporter both inside and outside of the EU.

Our principal products use tariff code: 3926909790 which as a Third party country would attract an import tariff of up to 6.5% (World Trade Organisation default tariffs) into the EU if the UK is outside of the EU customs union.

Import tariffs will not apply during any potential transition period.

Jo Bird & Co Ltd are working closely with our supply chain and logistics to minimise the impact on our customers following Brexit.

To reduce the risk interruption of manufacturing due to issues with our supply chain, we have increased stock of finished goods and raw materials, as well as ensuring that our supply chain has enough UK inventory to re-supply us rapidly.

To stabilise prices with have pre-ordered raw materials at a fixed cost, as well future contracts for foreign exchange.

We will continue to monitor the situation and review it in light of political developments.

We will take every step possible to minimise any potential delays or additional costs to our customers within the EU.

We will to continue to give all our customers the excellent quality of cabinets and service that is rightly expected of us.

JB17.950 Drying cabinet for the Petrochemical Corporation of Singapore

Jo Bird have just completed a customised JB17.950 cabinet with the superb quality Pronomar stainless steel drying system. It  is being supplied to the Petrochemical corporation by Riveria Marketing in Singapore.

The cabinet is fitted out with a series of hangers for both suits and boots along with a hot air blower and a timer control unit. Workers at the site will be able to remove wet clothing, hang it in the cabinet and set the timer to thoroughly and very hygenically dry the clothing. The system works by blowing hot air through stainless steel tubes fitted with small holes for the air to escape. This way every part of the clothing is dried and the clothes are not damaged. These tried and tested systems have been in use world wide for a number of years and have proved to be highly durable. Other options in terms of hangers for gloves and trousers or jackets can be selected. Please ask our sales team for futher details.

JB64 customised fire equipment cabinets for the new Karish FPSO

It has been a sea of red over the last few weeks as we completed an order for 56 of the JB64 fire equipment cabinets for the Karish FPSO. This will be working in the Tanin and Karish field off the coast of Isreal and operated by Energean. According to Energean's website this field contains an estimated 2.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 31.8 million barrels of light liquid hydrocarbons. To our knowledge these are the first cabinets we have supplied to this area and were ordered on behalf of Energean by the Denmark based Semco Maritime.

The JB64 is typically used for the storage of large horizntal fire hose reels but in this case the cabinets are fitted out with shelves and stainless steel brackets for the orderly storage of fire hoses, foam inductors and foam containers.

SOS700 Lifebuoy housings at Seawork

Ocean safety provided the lifesaving equipment for the temporary pontoons at the Seawork exhibition this week in Southampton. The SOS700 is ideal for this as it has a very shallow profile and so takes up very little of the limited deck space. The fully enclosed design with anti-tamper seal provides excellent weather protection for the lifebuoy and line. In this instance the lifebuoy housings were supported by light weight but very strong composite poles.SOS700 at Seawork 2019

Inside the exhibition halls IC Brindle were showing the same type of housing with a newly developed monitoring system called Meta-com. If the housing is opened then a text is sent to up to 5 mobile phones to notify those responsible for water safety that an event has happened. This follows a very successful trial at Poole harbour where the remote monitoring has helped to reduce incidents of vandalism and made it easier to monitor the lifesaving equipment.

SOS300 Fire hose cabinet launched at Seawork 2019

SOS300 is being launched in the innovations area at Seawork in Southampton (11-13th of June).

Why it is innovative
The SOS300 is unusual in being injection moulded. It has been developed over a two year period using CAD with finite element analysis to create a thoroughly robust design with a very high quality finish with none of the inherent weaknesses seen in other fire hose cabinets in this sector.

Elements have been adopted from our Firebird offshore cabinets such as the excellent EPDM door seals and the large rotary door catch to ensure effective protection, resistance to corrosion and speed of access.

The benefits of injection moulding being the superb finish, short production time and relatively low cost.

First stock of the SOS300 are due to be delivered towards the end of June 2019.
